I first heard about the Instant Pot several years ago when searching for a lead-free slow cooker. While there are a few brands that test to have lead within the safe limit finding one that was 100% lead-free was proving hard. That’s where the Instant Potcame in.

The Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker but it has a slow cooker setting. It’s lead-free because it has a stainless steel inner pot. It also makes clean up very easy as it’s dishwasher safe and you don’t have to worry about scratching it.

I thought when I got it I’d mostly just use it as a slow cooker. I do use that setting some but I’ve learned to love the pressure cooker settings. It’s amazing how quickly you can cook things.

I think the moment I knew it was life-changing was when I forgot to thaw some chicken breasts for dinner. I did a quick search and found it’s safe to cook frozen meat in the pressure cooker and found how long I needed to cook it. In less time than cooking thawed chicken breasts in the oven, I had perfectly cooked frozen chicken breasts!

Since I love to cook and bake I have a lot of kitchen tools so even with a good size kitchen space can be an issue. That’s another reason I love my Instant Pot. It works as an electric pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker, and more. I love multitasking items, they save so much space and money.

I’m always looking for new things to try in my Instant Pot and have collected a lot of recipes. I thought it would be fun to share them. If you already have an Instant Pot these are some new ideas or if you are still thinking about getting one this can show you some of the things you can do with your Instant Pot.

FAQs

Why is my Instant Pot not cooking as well? ›

Often, this means that there's not enough liquid in the pot or that the liquid hasn't reached all the bottom corners of the pot, which is easy to fix by adding more liquid. You may also need to let your pot cool down if you've been sautéing on high heat for a while.

Does Instant Pot count down when cooking? ›

It will say ON until the pot comes to pressure and then the timer will start counting DOWN. After the time has counted all the way down to zero the pot will beep 10 times. Then the display will start counting UP.

What are the less normal more settings on Instant Pot? ›

Set your cooking time. Within 10 seconds of setting your cooking time, press the 'adjust' key to toggle between 'less' (keep warm mode on a CrockPot), 'regular' (low on a CrockPot), and 'more' (high on a CrockPot.)

What happens if you don't put enough water in Instant Pot? ›

Not adding any liquid to the Instant Pot.

It's necessary for steam to build up, ultimately creating a high-pressure environment used for faster cooking. Without sufficient liquid, pressure won't build — and you'll likely get the dreaded “burn” error.

Why don t chefs use Instant Pot? ›

They are most commonly used in industrial settings to quickly prepare meat or stocks. However, in most scenarios, Elite Chefs avoid using pressure cookers because they provide less control over the final dish. Chefs often prefer slow cooking techniques that accentuate and pull out the flavors of the food.

What happens if you put too much in an Instant Pot? ›

Overfilling your Instant Pot can affect the pressure that builds up inside, so you might end up with a mushy meal, or one that doesn't cook properly. Also, an overly-full Instant Pot can lead to a clogged pressure release knob, because food and liquid can get sucked up inside.

Can I overcook in the Instant Pot? ›

Unfortunately, once you overcook a piece of meat in the pressure cooker, there's no going back. You'll be left with a pile of dry, crunchy, tasteless fibers and no amount of additional pressure cooking is going to put that moisture back into the meat.

How to change Instant Pot settings to more? ›

To adjust the cook time on Manual/Pressure Cook use the + and – buttons. -To adjust Less-Normal-More use the “Adjust” button on most models. button again to cycle through the Less-Normal-More settings.

What is the difference between high and low pressure on Instant Pot? ›

On most pressure cookers today, you'll see that expressed as a “low” pressure setting (usually about 10 psi, which reaches 235 degrees) and a “high” pressure setting (usually 15 psi, which reaches 250 degrees).

Why did my Instant Pot not reach pressure within cooking time? ›

It could be the amount of liquid in your pot, or that you're cooking something from frozen. There could also be a mechanical issue. If the pot takes longer than 45 minutes to come to pressure and begin the cooking cycle, first ensure that the lid is secure and that you have fully sealed the venting/sealing valve.

Why is my Instant Pot not pressurizing correctly? ›

SOLUTION: Open the Instant Pot and make sure there's enough liquid. If too much liquid has evaporated, the Instant Pot won't pressurize, so add more liquid if necessary. Close the Instant Pot and resume pressure cooking. If you have trouble closing the lid, move the steam release handle to the VENTING position.

How do you unclog an Instant Pot? ›

To clean the inside of the Instant Pot, use a small brush to clear out any food trapped in the inner cooking pot, on the lip or edges of the outer base, or in the crevices of the unit.

How to clean an Instant Pot pressure valve? ›

Soak the valve (and its parts) in a mixture of equal parts hot water and white vinegar. Soaking them for at least 30 minutes helps to loosen food splatters and tougher food stains. Then, clean the valve and its parts with a soft scrub brush or sponge, and rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
